About the role

Join our team and play a key role in driving strong financial performance and strategic decision-making across Council operations.

We are seeking an experienced Finance Business Partner to play a critical role in delivering high quality management accounting, financial analysis, and strategic advice across the organisation.

Working closely with executive leaders and department heads, this role supports informed decision making through accurate budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting. Acting as a trusted advisor, the Finance Business Partner ensures financial practices align with regulatory requirements and support the Council's strategic and operational objectives.

About you

You are a collaborative and analytical finance professional with:

  • Experience in management accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Strong business partnering and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • High attention to detail and problem-solving capability.
  • The ability to communicate financial information clearly and effectively.
  • A proactive approach and commitment to continuous improvement.

What We're Looking For

We need someone who shares our values of One, Respect, Accountability, Courage, and Resilience. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Possession of Bachelor-level qualifications in Business or Commerce (Accounting).
  • Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA Australia) or Chartered Accountant (Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia) would be highly regarded.
  • Extensive experience in a similar role within financial services.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to provide strategic financial advice.
  • Demonstrated experience in operating the Tech 1 accounting software or the ability to rapidly acquire technical competency in this system.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and financial modelling techniques.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the issues impacting Torres Strait Islander people together with the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively.

Other Requirements

  • The preferred candidate will be required to apply for a National Police Certificate before appointment.
