Torres Strait Island Regional Council is seeking motivated and reliable Engineering Officers to join our Engineering Services team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a hands-on role in maintaining and improving essential community infrastructure that supports the health, safety, and wellbeing of our region.

About the Role

As an Engineering Officer, you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality infrastructure services across the Torres Strait region. You will be involved in a diverse range of activities including civil works, water and wastewater operations, waste management, airport and marine facility maintenance, and general infrastructure upkeep.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair community infrastructure including roads, parks, stormwater systems, marine facilities, and public amenities.

  • Assist in the operation and maintenance of water supply and wastewater treatment systems, ensuring safe and reliable services.

  • Support landfill and waste collection operations in line with environmental guidelines.

  • Conduct airport and seaport inspections and maintenance in accordance with relevant regulations.

  • Operate plant, machinery, tools, and equipment safely and effectively.

  • Monitor infrastructure conditions and report defects promptly.

  • Respond to maintenance issues and breakdowns to minimise service disruptions.

What We're Looking For

  • Mandatory Current C class, Type Provisional or higher Queensland Drivers licence (Open) and not expired is esssential
  • Practical experience in civil works, maintenance, or infrastructure services (desirable).

  • Ability to operate plant and equipment safely (tickets/licences highly regarded).

  • Strong work ethic and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Commitment to workplace health and safety standards.

  • Good communication skills and reliability.
