About the role:

As a Healthy Lifestyle Officer, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to contribute to the health and wellbeing of the community through provision and coordination of a range of activities including movement, educational activities and preventative health programs.

Key Tasks:

  • Increase community awareness of the importance of physical activity and healthy behaviours/lifestyle. (e.g. teeth hygiene, quit smoking, drug and alcohol awareness).
  • Form partnerships with the community and key stakeholders (e.g. Environmental Health Workers, QLD Health, TSRA Rangers, Art Centres, Libraries, Tagai Campuses, and Prescribed Body Corporate (PBC) and traditional landowners) to develop and apply health promotion and health and wellbeing programs in response to community needs to close the gap in indigenous health and wellbeing.
  • Develop and coordinate active culturally appropriate recreation programs that encourage community participation in activities.
  • Develop weekly work plans to organise and promote activities and events.
  • Data Collection and reporting: Enter information (e.g. number of participants, event type, names of other agencies involved) into Councils electronic information system (Tech One) after each activity.
  • Work collaboratively with TSRIC Multi Skilled Administration Officer to develop and implement community-based programs from the IKCs.

What We're Looking For:

We need someone who shares our values of One, Respect, Accountability, Courage, and Resilience. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Mandatory Requirement: must have a current - Working With Children Card (Blue Card) or the ability to obtain is essential before commencement. No Card. No Link. No Start
  • Certificate III in an accredited fitness industry course, and/or ability to gain the qualification and experience?
  • A sound level of knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams) for reporting and planning
  • A Primary Health Care related qualification would be an advantage.
  • A current (open and unrestricted) Queensland Driver's Licence would be highly desirable.
  • A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of languages specific to the Torres Strait
    including: Meriam Mer, Kala Lagaw Ya, and/or Creole.
