Council is seeking a Project Supervisor - Operations to lead and oversee multiple construction and maintenance projects within our Building Services Unit. This role is integral to ensuring high-quality service delivery, safe work practices, and effective management of project resources across TSIRC communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee end-to-end delivery of construction, repair, and maintenance projects, ensuring adherence to Council's quality, cost, and timeline standards.
  • Ensure compliance with building codes, procurement regulations, and Council policies.
  • Monitor and control project budgets, ensuring cost-effectiveness and efficient use of Council resources.
  • Ensure all contractor payments, progress claims, and financial documentation are processed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including contractors, suppliers, and government agencies.
  • Manage contract negotiations and procurement processes, ensuring fair and competitive agreements.
  • Ensure strict compliance with Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation and site safety protocols.
  • Conduct risk assessments and safety audits, identifying hazards and implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Provide leadership and direction to on-site supervisors, contractors, and support staff.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification or trade certification in Construction Management, Project Management, Business Administration, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple construction and maintenance projects with strong outcomes in quality, budget management, and compliance.
  • Strong understanding of procurement processes, contract administration, and financial oversight.
  • Proven ability to engage effectively with contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of WHS legislation and risk management practices.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills suited to diverse teams.
  • Basic understanding of Meriam Mer, Kala Lagaw Ya, or Torres Strait Creole (highly desirable).
