Torres Strait Regional Council (TSIRC) is the largest employer in the Torres Strait serving 15 ‘outer' island communities with unique characteristics and service requirements. Council is seeking a dedicated Environmental Health Worker to support the delivery of our Public Health Program and ensure safe, healthy living environments across the region. This community focused role is ideal for someone passionate about public health, education, and working collaboratively with local stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the delivery of the Public Health Program as outlined in Council's Operational Plan.
  • Monitor, identify, and respond to environmental health issues within the community.
  • Provide community education and awareness on environmental health and safety.
  • Build strong, cooperative working relationships with TSIRC staff.
  • Deliver frontline services to the community on environmental health and animal management matters.
  • Work closely with community members, local health professionals, veterinary services, Rangers, Police, and other Environmental Health Workers to address health and safety concerns.

What We're Looking For:

We need someone who shares our values of One, Respect, Accountability, Courage, and Resilience. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation. This includes but is not limited to Health Act, Food Act, Environmental Protection Act and local laws
  • Understanding of local laws, the relevant Acts pertaining to environmental health and cultural protocols within communities
  • Possess an unrestricted Class "C" Queensland Driver's Licence
  • Developed oral and written communication skills in negotiations, coordination and problem-solving
  • Good organisational skills
  • Reliable and be part of a team
  • Have good work ethics
